What do you love about it?

Decanting my pantry items into Mason jars with airtight storage lids has totally transformed my kitchen. It’s so pretty and organized that I enjoy cooking way more than I did before, since now I don’t have to dig around looking for things anymore. There’s also less food waste/spoilage because being able to see everything gives you a much better sense of what you have on hand; food items don’t get shoved to the back of the cabinet and forgotten anymore.

How do you use it?

So many things! Where to start… Storing coffee, spices, flour, sugar, grains, beans, rice, nuts, granola, candy, dried fruits, dog treats…basically any dry goods. If I have a container of broth or other perishable liquid in the fridge that I don’t think will get used up before the expiration date, I portion it into smaller jars, stick a lid on, and put them in the freezer for later.

Instead of plastic storage bags, I’ve used lidded jars as containers for the small toiletries that tend to make a mess in your suitcase during air travel. The air-tight jar even helps keep the air pressure steady so they don’t blow open! Plus, the jar itself often comes in handy during a trip, since you can use it to hold your toothbrush, makeup brushes, etc., or as an environmentally friendly alternative to the single-use, plastic-wrapped cups in your hotel room.
