Product Description
Use this filter system to make delicious cold brewed coffee and steep loose leaf tea for the perfect, smooth beverage any time of year! Coffee and tea made through this system is good for you and the environment. Did you know that cold brewed coffee has a lower acidity level, which is good for your teeth and your stomach. Because it's never been heated, the chemistry isn't changed, you can save it in your fridge for a week or two and the taste is never altered.
Cold brewed tea is also lower in tannins and therefore provides a smoother drink. Loose leaf tea is better for the environment because it uses fewer resources by skipping the bag and tag. You can compost your leftover grounds and tea leaves for a richer garden.
This system includes:
- Two different silicone seals in order to make it leak proof. Use only one at a time.
- Stainless steel filter
- Stainless steel lid
Directions:
For brewing and steeping:
- Only use the "wrap around" silicone seal that seals both sides of the metal filter (against glass and lid). This seal is optional if you keep the jar upright.
- Cold Brew Coffee - To make cold brew coffee concentrate, fill the filter tube about 3/4 full with coarse ground coffee, to allow for swelling. Pour in cold water to fill jar and allow it sit on your counter or in your fridge for 24 hours.
- Loose Leaf Tea - To steep loose leaf tea, combine 1-2 teaspoons of your favorite tea with 6-8 oz of cold water and place in fridge. Steep white or green tea for 6 to 8 hours; steep black or oolong tea for 8 to 12 hours depending on desired strength.
- Hot Coffee or Tea - You can also use this filter to make hot coffee and tea. Put the grounds or leaves in the filter, pour in 200 degree water, and wait a few minutes.
- Once brewing/steeping is complete, remove the filter, dump grounds/leaves into your compost, pour over ice, add your favorite coffee/tea additions and enjoy!
For storing:
- Keep your brewed coffee and tea in your Mason jar fresh and leak proof with the other silicone seal and stainless steel lid included.
Helpful tips:
- Be sure you use coarse ground coffee! A higher quality coffee grinder will give you a more consistent coarse grind. Cheaper grinders produce a mix of coarse all the way down to powdery grinds.
- The cold brew coffee concentrate will be strong, so you may need to dilute it. Serve it hot or over ice, add sugar or dairy, or any other way you like!
- To make a more concentrated version, use more coffee grounds or steep for longer. Cold brew coffee is commonly made very strong and diluted at serving time.
- They are 10cm, 15cm, and 21cm tall. The mesh part is 7cm in diameter. The mesh is 50 micron dutch weave.
- All parts are dishwasher safe, and I find this the easiest way to clean them.

Fits the wide mouth half gallon mason jar perfectly! Seals very well. Easy to clean, I ran it through the dishwasher before use and after the first use. Bought a second one for loose leaf tea!!
I had the Qt.size then switch to 1/2 gallon. Drcoldbrew is a best of both worlds. This filter is a must and no mess for fine grains. Fill the bottle with crush ice till the bottom/or more of the filter . Pour little hot water to awake the grinds flavor . Then fill the crush ice in the filter and then fill with tap water . Refrigerate for 12 hr. (cold brew style)
After 12hr. I use a 2ply unbleached , organic flannel cloth 11" x 12" from Etsy . to filter out the fine grains in the brew . This flat flannel cloth is easiest to clean and give brew a smooth taste. Note cleaning the flannel only use water no soap/ air or sun dry. I tried decaf and reg. In Japan after a year they toss the flannel(coffee shops)
I have used a few different methods for cold brew and they all work fine, but this filter/lid set is the fastest, least messy system so far and I didn't have to double strain the coffee before using it. I did use the Mason Jar coffee grinder for coarse grind to avoid a lot of sediment and had the perfect grind for strong, smooth concentrate. Very easy to clean up and manage the two seals. Definitely five stars.
This filter is fantastic! I have tried to make cold brew using other methods but this filter made it super easy. I bought the Large filter. I used a 1:4 coffee:water ratio (1 cup coffee to 4 cups water) to fill the mason jar. The mixture sat for 24 hours, then I poured it over ice and added evaporated milk and some salted caramel syrup. I didn’t use fancy coffee beans either, just a can of medium roast from the grocery store. There were no grounds in the mix and clean up was easy! The price of the filter was very reasonable. It has been a yummy afternoon treat!
I purchased both the half-gallon and the quart size a couple of weeks ago. I started with making a 64 oz. jar of cold brew coffee and it was so easy. Made extra strong I stirred about a tablespoon of cinnamon into the dry grounds before steeping. It's tasty to stir in a little milk into some brew every morning for cold refreshing (and smooth) coffee. With the quart size strainer I've made cold brew loose tea, and fruit water. These strainers make brewing creative drinks a breeze, they're easy to clean. Next up, I'll try the strainer for making oat milk without using a messy bag. Yep, this one's a winner and you can't miss!!
